HOW MUCH DOES A CUSTOM DESIGNED ENGAGEMENT RING COST?

Megan and Jenna have 40 years experience making fine jewellery between them so they have vast expertise and inspiration to draw from when creating a unique design just for you.

We work with recycled gold (14K, 18K, yellow, rose and white) and platinum. The price of precious metals is constantly changing and generally trending upwards. The chosen design will determine the weight required and the global market will determine the price per gram for the selected precious metal.

Diamond prices are largely dictated by the 4C's; Colour, Clarity, Cut and Carat. Each 'C' influences the price along with fluorescence and the origin of the stone. 

Precious gems also vary greatly in price depending on size, colour, clarity, quality of cut and/or treatment (heat, irradiation etc) applied.

Because there is such vast difference in pricing for diamonds and gems we can use your preferences to offer a selection of stones to choose from within your budget.

Aside from time spent consulting with you on design and the sourcing of materials there is the physical labour required to bring the piece to life! The most simple solitaire engagement ring requires roughly eight hours of physical labour. The more intricate the design, the more stones included and the more features such as texture and/or engraving, the more labour involved. 

So while there is no set pricing for custom designed engagement rings we have put together the following table of starting prices. These prices include the design, metal and labour required to make a simple solitaire engagement ring. The cost of the stone's is additional. We have a selection of stones available for purchase here or we can have stones brought in for an obligation free viewing.

9K GOLD AND STERLING SILVER

Due to the characteristics of these metals we don't recommend them for engagement rings. This is to ensure longevity of the piece as engagement rings are intended to be worn every day.

If these metals are your preference we are very happy to discuss design options that will ensure the best possible outcome.

CUSTOM ENGAGEMENT RING PROCESS

    INITIAL CONSULTATION - FREE

    You will get to meet with either Megan or Jenna, we are both the designers and the creators of all our jewellery!

    Over the course of an hour (give or take) we will discuss all of your design ideas, your preferences, requirements, recycled metal and ethical gem options, and provide guidance in the best way to bring your ideas to life.

    We can also provide an indicative cost for your project ideas.

    DESIGN FEE - $400

    If you wish to proceed and have designs drawn up to scale we charge a $400 design fee. This fee is deducted from the total cost of the manufacture of the piece.

    This fee includes three initial sketches and up to three rounds of modifications on the chosen design.

    If further modifications are required, additional charges may apply depending on the degree of modification required.

  • SUSTAINABLE DIAMONDS + GEMS

    We strictly vet our diamond and gem suppliers so that they meet our social, ethical and environmental ideals.

    We have a small selection of loose gems available on-line and in-store for purchase.

    If we don't have exactly what you are looking for we work with our suppliers to get stones in for you to view in person. This is an obligation free service, with no pressure to purchase as any unwanted stones can be returned.

COMPUTER AIDED DESIGN (CAD)

During the initial consultation we will often hand draw some ideas to ensure we're all on the same page.

Once we're sure we're on the right track we do most of our designing using 3D software for speed and accuracy.

The images produced are to scale and allow us to see perfect proportions and placement as well as quickly modify things like stone and metal colour.

It is possible to print the files produced in wax and then cast them in the 100% recycled metal of choice. Whether we use the lost wax casting method, hand forging or a combination of both to create a design depends on the design itself and the materials used.

We are always happy to disclose which method/s we intend to use in your design.

HANDMADE IN MELBOURNE

  • THE CHOSEN DESIGN

    Once the design has been tweaked to perfection we issue a formal quote. A 50% deposit is required as acceptance.

    And then the fun begins!

    With few exceptions everything is handmade in our Melbourne studio.

  • HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?

    From initial consultation to completion usually takes 4-12 weeks.

    This includes working with you to finalise the design, making any necessary adjustments and sourcing the right materials to make sure you are completely happy with the outcome.

  • HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

    The price of gold is ever evolving and precious gems vary greatly in cost due to their innate qualities.

    As such it isn't possible to give an exact quote without knowing the details of your project.

    We are always happy to discuss what can be done within your budget.

    THE FINISHED PIECE

    We will be in touch as soon as your custom made jewellery is ready for collection. The final payment is due at this time.

    Each piece comes with it's own sustainably forested timber box for safe keeping and presentation.

    On the base of the box you'll find instructions for on-going care and cleaning.

    FREE CLEANING AND POLISHING FOR LIFE!

    We offer complimentary cleaning and polishing on all pieces made at Megan Webb Jeweller. You are welcome to come in and see us as often as you like, before a big event, on an anniversary, whenever you want a refresh!

    We recommend that you come in at least once a year as this allows us to do a quick maintenance check on your pieces and ensure everything is as it should be.
